KCRW Sessions ~ Corinne Bailey Rae

Corrine and Josh Ritter are neck in neck. That is to say, for my vote for album of the year. Josh’s release speaks to the inner-activist. Corrine’s speaks to the inner-soul.

Her voice reminds me a little of Erykah Badu. Her musical stylings remind me of no one. That is to say, she is all over the map from pop to funk to soul to acoustic. These six songs showcase all of the above. Much like Grace Potter, I think Corrine is on the verge of the Big Time.

Hmm...I understand the Erykah Badu comparison, but I don't think it's her voice. It's something about her phrasing and pronunciation of some words.

On another note, I saw her on VH1 soul and I nearly shit myself at the amount of soul coming out of my television. Her and Leela James are incredible...It's a shame that the commercial market doesn't embrace them as much as they should.

they sound alike because they're both 'billie-inspired,' that's all.
