Random Friday Post ~ Happy Birthday Late Greats!
Yessirrebob, The Late Greats turns one year old today. I could wax all nostalgic about the past 365 days. Instead, I have decided to write a mission statement, besides the slogan (“home for the greatest songs never heard” which was paraphrased from the Wilco song that gave this blog its name). So here goes:
The Late Greats strives to introduce fans of music to new bands/artists/musicians that do not get much exposure in the blogsphere. Some criterion for “songs never heard”: well-written songs with meaningful lyrics and a nice melody; musicians that deserve more publicity than they get; and some miscellaneous stuff that I like that I have stored on my shelves and in my hard drive.
Am I exceeding in this mission? Leave a hullabaloo (or at least wish The Late Greats a happy birthday)
Oh, yeah, here are some birthday songs.
Soso ~ Birthday Song (sorta like Eminem)
Rusty James ~ Birthday (sorta like The Replacements)
Rigas ~ Happy Birthday (sorta like Moby)
Rustle of Luv ~ Birthday Girl (sorta like a walk in the woods with drunk band of hippies)
THC Squared ~ Happy Birthday (sorta like Green Day meets Bloodhound Gang)
Terry Gajraj ~ Chutney Birthday (sorta indescribable)
Sondre Lerche ~ Happy Birthday Girl (sorta long but worth a listen)
Michael Bach ~ Happy Birthday (to me) (sorta low-key)
Andrew Bird ~ The Happy Birthday Song (sorta like, the best album-ending song released in 2005)
Bright Eyes ~ Happy Birthday To Me (Feb. 15) (sorta like the Michael Bach song but still Conor)
I should give some thanks to the blogs/bloggers who have given The Duke some help/support over the last year (in beta-alpha-cal order as usual). Thanks guys and gals!!

Happy birthday indeed, dear Duke! I think you are succeeding fabulously in your mission, and i often just listen to your streampad instead of the radio. Beats my cd collection, which i mostly stopped adding to about 6 years ago. Cheers!
