Random Friday Post ~ Yes, I Think You’ve Heard This Before

(This post is in honor of Groundhog’s Day, both date and movie. And as of 7 this morning, Phil says an early spring!!!)

So a few years ago, I was listening to this Ani album (Dilate) and the title track came on. My wife and I were sitting on the couch. Two minutes into the song, something clicked. I jumped over the back of the couch and rushed to the piano. Whacking on the keys, I figured out Ani was working in the key of A. Her little wordless chorus sounded strikingly similar to one David Byrne uses in the opening song on his orchestral album The Forest.

I rushed to the stereo and loaded the Byrne. Around the fourth minute, David comes in with his wordless chorus. Sweet Jesus, it’s in A also. I was floored. This was too weird to ignore.

Of course, I did ignore it (until NOW). I was tempted to email Ani and ask her if she had ever heard the Byrne melody. Of course, I didn’t. Maybe I’ll send her this post and she what she thinks (don’t hold your breath).

I have included the two original tracks, two samples that feature the melody and then layering the samples on top of each other. Give them a listen. Let me know if you think. Am I crazy? Are there similarities? Leave a hullabaloo.
