Why The F*ck Is No One In America Blogging About: Serena Ryder

Like the previous Canadian artist in this series, Serena Ryder is another Canadian lady about to make a big splash at SXSW.

Serena will release a new album (in the states) on May 8th. The majority of the tracks (12/15) are cover versions written by fellow states(wo)men. She covers Canadian classics like “Sisters of Mercy” (Leonard Cohen), “This Wheel’s On Fire” (The Band), “You Were On My Mind” (We Five).

I heard her interviewed on Iceberg 95. The interviewer compared her to Melanie. Which makes sense. Serena has a deep, rich voice, almost like drinking a Mackeson's XXX Stout or eating a grass-fed grilled New York strip steak. At 23, she is on the verge of becoming a household name (in the states). Check her out here, there and (soon) everywhere.

I think she still has to find her genre, but she has awesome talent. Really appreciate her music so far.

I must have missed this post the first time around. Some PR person sent me Serena's CD last month and I don't recall hearing about her music before that. I love the album and just posted a review of it to my own blog.
