Random Friday Post ~ Checking In With My “10 To Keep An Ear Out For”

Back in February, I made some predictions on artist who would make a splash in 2007. Since the year is half over, I have decided to check on my list. Below, you’ll find what I said and a simple evaluation, plus maybe an mp3. Look for another recap at the end of the year.
Number Ten: Amy Winehouse
What I said: “A fiery vixen from great Britain who once wrote a song called “Fuck Me Pumps”. She toured with The Roots. Need I say more?”
Hit or miss? A great big, bases-loaded grand slam of a hit.
Monkey Man
Number Nine: The Broken West
What I said: “Because their album title is a quote from Samuel Beckett and their music is more infectious than the bird flu.”
Hit or miss? Hit cuz I’ve been hugging the toilet, yakking up bird flu for six months.
Down In The Valley
Number Eight: Groove Armada
What I said? “The dynamic downtempo duo have been in the studio prepping a new album.”
Hit or miss? So far, a miss. Where is that new album?
Number Seven: Joshua Radin
What I said? “Zack Braff’s go-to songwriter for moody, soundtracky music.”
Hit or miss? A bunt, maybe
Number Six: Willy Mason
What I said? “This young songwriter from Martha’s Vineyard who had the audacity to cover Grand Master Flash’s “The Message” is releasing a new album in March.”
Hit or miss? Mostly a hit.
Number Five: Stabilo
What I said? “Who names their band after a pen? While, these guys. Canadian songwriters up for a Juno for Best New Band that has the confidence to invade other countries besides their homeland.”
Hit or miss? A miss. Didn’t win the JUNO.
Number Four: Antibalas
What I said? “The world’s hardest working Aforbeat band has a new album coming out on March 5th. This band lays down heavy grooves laced with politics.”
Hit or miss? A hit cuz I’m digging the new tunes.
Age
Number Three: The Cat Empire
What I said? “An eight piece band from Australia that plays more musical styles in one song than most bands do an entire albums.”
Hit or miss? A hit, even if they haven’t caught on in the blogsphere.
Lullaby
Number Two: Northern State
What I said? “My favorite and your favorite all-female rap group (often referred to as The Beastie Girls) will be dropping a new album in 2007. Some may dismiss them as more trash than talent but I for one can’t wait.”
Hit or miss? When this album drops, it’ll be like a cloud of radiation makin everybody sick, sick, sick.
Ooh Girl
Number One: Zero 7
What I said? “Plain and simple: their name is the year.”
Hit or miss? A miss (so far).
