885 MMMM ~ Most Memorable Music Featured On Tiny Toons

885 Most Memorable Musical Moments
I used to watch Tiny Toons before heading off to school in the morning. There once was an episode that featured music videos. I only remember two of them. Mostly because it marked the beginning of another musical transition for The Duke.

If you have been following this series, you already know, I’ve been a sappy piano-ballad fan who morphed into a Rap listener.

But it was They Might Be Giants’ contribution to Tiny Toons that ushered me away from Rap and into Alternative.

To place this period in music, this was a few years before “Teen Spirit” turned the country flannel. This was when EMF and Jesus Jones were all over MTV. When pop music was growing tired of Hammer and Vanilla Ice. When the ‘80s where transitioning into the ‘90s. My high school history teacher once said that decades are often misleading. That the real change happens where elections occur. Like, the ‘90s didn’t really start until Slick Willy took office, when the first Bush regime was voted out.

They Might Be Giants may have been part of the reason why Clinton won. Folks my age were coming of age. Tastes were altering. Change was on the horizon.

Can two silly cartoon clips really be held responsible for a musical paradigm shift? For this music lover, they are. TMBG opened the doors for me. John and John held that door for Jane’s Addiction, Rage Against The Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, etc… Oh, and Nirvana, of course.

These songs off of “Flood” are treasured in my castle. Tracks 4 and 7 respectively. Enjoy the clips and then the mp3s.

Oh my! I remember that episode quite clearly, even though I was maybe eight years old at the time. I walked around singing "Istanbul" for weeks after. Definitely need to see this show on DVD. They finally released Animaniacs next year, so hopefully, it's not a long way off!
