Album Review ∞ Danny Schmidt: Little Grey Sheep

Danny Schmidt is from Austin, TX. But he sounds like he is from everywhere. Like he is everyone, everyman. His songs tell stories about people you know.

In the song that I feel is on the short list of great songs to have come out in 2008, Danny sings “I believe our book is written by our company of friends” (Company Of Friends). It is obvious that Danny loves his friends. Long time buddy and musical collaborator Paul Curreri produced the record (w/ Danny's help). Paul’s wife and Late Great fave Devon Sproule sings back up.

Danny, Paul and Devon all started playing music circa 1999 in Charlottesville, Virginia. BFF's indeed.

He says about the album:
“It's fun making a record with friends . . . just a whole different creative atmosphere when there's that deeper level of trust and affection. And me and Paul work in very different ways . . . so it definitely brought some contradictory and complimentary approaches to the table that helped the project overall, I think.”
