maybe a bit on the late side..but I read somewhere that the makers of The Wire ran out of versions of 'way down in the hole' after the 2nd season and asked Steve Earl (IIRC..and not confused with Tom Waits..can't find the article where I read it) to cóver a song (this song) which he usually never does. How old are these other versions? eg. Asylum Street spankers and Mike Babyak's Triple Fret versions?
