Wayback Wednesdays

We travel all the way back to 2005 today and celebrate Redbird. A folk super-trio that recorded the best folk album of 2005. They were Kris Delmhorst, Jeffrey Foucault & Peter Mulvey. The album was four friends (David Goodrich did the recording and peppered the release with some nice instrument work) playing songs they liked. You can hear how much these guys like playing together, singing together.

I put this album on the other day to clean up the kitchen. Man it’s good! Yesterday, I check Kris’ website. Looks like she’ll be releasing a new album on April 22! Holy serendipity Batman! Here is another “!” to illustrate how excited I am.

Shotgun Singer track list:
Blue Adeline
Heavens Hold the Sun
To the Wire
Midnight Ringer
If Not for Love
Riverwide
1000 Reasons
Birds of Belfast
Oleander
Kiss It Away
Freediver
Brand New Sound

Listen:
Redbird ∞ Ships (Greg Brown)
Redbird ∞ Patience (Mark Sandman of Morphine)

Saw Delmhosrt w/ Peter Mulvey, Chris Smither and Caroline Herring two weeks ago -- a great set in the round, and Delmhorst's newer songs seem like they're going to be just as sweet and gorgeous as ever.

Delmhost is, incidentally, visibly pregnant, which she claims has give her voice a belly power and rich tone that is new and wonderful (I heard it, and agree). In her own words, she's due to "waddle" onto the stage at the Iron Horse in Northampton, MA in late March for a CD release party, but that may be her last live show for a while, given the impending babyhood.
