Wayback Wednesdays

I love when things come together serendipitously. I had been planning to do Devon Sproule as this week’s Wayback Wednesday since last Wednesday.

Since then, I have realized her and husband Paul Curreri have released they annual Valentine’s Duets. Every year since 2003, Devon and Paul have put out little compilations of cover songs for Valentines Day (FREE TO DOWNLOAD!!!).

Also since then, I found out that Devon’s 2003 album – Upstate Songs – has been re-released by Tin Angel Records.

If you have been reading The Late Greats for a while, you know Devon’s 2007 album – Keep Your Silver Shined – was one of my favorite albums from last year.

BUT this post is about her 2003 release – Long Sleeve Story. Much different sonically then her later work. More production, more electric, more horns, longer songs. But the superb songwriting is still there.

Listen:
(from Long Sleeve Story)
Devon Sproule ∞ Bird Feeder
Devon Sproule ∞ What I’m Used To (I freakin’ LOVE this song)

(from Upstate Songs)
Devon Sproule ∞ Farewell, Seasick Suffering!

(from 2008 Valentine’s Duets)
1. Don't Put All Your Dreams in One Basket (D. Morgan)
2. Old Soul Twist (P. Case)
3. Portland Town (D. Adams)
4. Lucinda (J. Romano)
5. Sponji Reggae (Black Uhuru)
6. The Things You Do (M. Huddleston)
7. Daybreak (H. Nilsson)
8. The Night Before (Lennon / McCartney)
9. New Paint (L. Wainwright III)
10. The Bacon Fat (Brown / Williams)

I knew I loved Devon's work with Paul, but for some reason, I hadn't yet found their website, with all those V-day songs...

...which means you just introduced this very happy folk coverblogger to not one, but over FIFTY sweet coversongs.

Man, name your finder's fee. This is the best thing since Christmas.
