Wayback Wednesdays
(A little bit of a different trip in the Wayback Machine today.)
Way back when I first started reading music blogs, my blog buddy and sometimes collaborator Heather from I Am Fuel, You Are Friends – who has an excellent collection of Wilco covers right now – had this weekly featured called World Music Wednesday. Which is kinda self explanatory.
When I popped in Amelia’s A Long, Lovely List of Repairs, I immediately thought about Heather’s weekly feature. The leadoff song has an Eastern European vibe. Throughout the album, Amelia peppers non-Western musical ideas, whether it’s instruments of melody lines.
My second thought was Amelia is a little like Shivaree without the drum machine. Teisha Helgerson at times, reminds me of Ambrosia Parsley. The rest of Amelia is rounded out with Jesse Emerson and Scott Weddle. Their music is somewhere between Folk and folk, if you know what I mean.
