A Beta-Alpha-Cal Glance At My Favorite 10 Albums From 2008
Probably no surprise to anyone familiar with The Late Greats that Old Crow would crack my top ten. Heck, I even called Tennessee Pusher “The greatest bluegrass concept album of all time”.
After a few more weeks of listening, I can say this: these cats could conquer the world if they wanted to. I’ve yet to meet a person who doesn’t like their song “Wagon Wheel”. I have heard that song covered at least dozen times by a dozen different bands/musicians.
They put on a compelling live show, attacking their music with an earnest energy not found in other bands. Whether they are performing a cover or an original, the boys in Old Crow can harmonize as well as The Beatles and Beach Boys.
And their 2008 album cements them in company with bands/musicians like Kanye West, Fleet Foxes, TV On The Radio, Bon Iver and all the others that other music blogs will be calling the best music of ‘08.
