I was first to the Au Revoir Simone track simply because of the reference to my favorite movie of all time Pee Wee's Big Adventure. For those of you who are less familiar with the fine film, the band name is a regerence to a particularly bittersweet scene in which Pee Wee chooses to follow his heart and continue his journey to fine his lost bike. In order to do this, he has to part with a newly found friend named Simone who is chasing her own dream of someday owning her own restaurant in Paris. After being chased around massive dinosaur statues by Simone's burly lumberjack boyfriend Pee Wee hops on a Greyhound bus bound for LA. Simone, in her thick southern accent, waves at Pee Wee, yelling "Au Revior Pee Wee, Au Revoir". Pee Wee, sticking his head out of the thin bus window sideways, responds in his nasal whine, "Au Revoir Simone".
Take a minute to wipe your tears away if you need to.
